2011-12

E-mail Print PDF

Season ended at home v Wateringbury, with an under strength side who gave a good account on the day. Wateringbury who only missed out on title by goal difference were frustrated and only scored late on with a scrappy goal.  A mixed season with a slow start, but once he first win came we had a good patch, then fell away in the later stages. Sloppy results v Sutton Saints, yet fine performances v West Farleigh, Headcorn to note a few.

Fines and outstanding match fees need to be cleared asap in order that pitch fees can be covered.

Andy Lind £65, James Makepeace £70, Steve Warren £50, Phillip Seymour £10 (agreed next week).

Both Andy & James are banned for 42 & 35 days respectively, September through until early October.

Financially this is the worst year by far on record, currently we are down c. £500 on the season, potentially £200 recoverable in outstanding fines.

Unless pitch fees are paid in full we lose use of Honey Lane.

Registration for next season is required by end of June, league & cup registration fees required by then.

Training normally commences July, with friendlies July-August, Season starts at the beginning of September (date tbc).

Mainly regulars were missing during the last games, so not clear who is still committed. Some of the youngsters look good to build on for the future, but more people need to get involved in running helping run the club.

Shepway Decision

E-mail Print PDF

At Mondays League SGM it was voted that Shepway should no longer be allowed to participate in the Premier League, this follows certain allegations and in particular the incidents v Smarden in February, following which Smarden themselves withdrew. Shepway have a particularly bad disciplinary record which is actually not much worse than ours, although it can never be a good thing to lose sides from the league.

Although not directly affecting Division 3 with now only 7 sides (from 11 starting) in the premier and 9 in the first, the whole League will no doubt be restructure next year, unless new clubs join this will ultimately mean less games for all. Now down to just 38 teams a far cry from the days when the league boasted 70+ clubs in 6 divisions!

Hollingbourne 2 Thurnham 2 (actually only 1 counted)

Only £10 was collected at the game, so all those who played and want to play this weekend should ensure they bring with them £10, some of you still owe fines and match fees from earlier weeks, I'd like to bring debts up to date by the end of March. Saturday's game will cost the club £100, we have 3 home games in April which will be a further £300.
.
Oh yes, and there was a game of football, Thurnham in control stormed into a 2 - 0 lead with a well taken goal from Justin Taylor. Clearly running from an onside position the linesman, just returning from duty in Barcelona, or was it Specsavers got this one badly wrong and flagged for offsite. The decision created an unsavoury atmosphere and Thurnham never settled afterwards and lost focus. No problems with the Hollingbourne equaliser a well taken goal. Late on the home side added a second and 'stole' being a fairly appropriate term, the three points.
.
I think we've proved that we can compete with the best this division has to offer, decisions and consistency has not always been on our side, with the games left it is still possible to finish top four, this could lend towards promotion dependent on new sides and how the leagues are re-organised for 2011/12. With the top two divisions short on teams a potential shuffle upwards could arise, with maybe more than two sides from Division Three going up.

Club In Crisis

E-mail Print PDF

Thurnham hosted Lenham is an open game with both teams trying to play football. It was tight throughout with attempts on target limited although both keepers were there when needed. Thurnham were a little slow coming out second half and Lenham probably had the better of the period, although the Thurnham defence now appear to have sorted earlier season weaknesses stood resilient. However, a converted penalty awarded in the 88th minute gave the points to Lenham.

.

After this the match fell into chaos, we argued our way tyhrtough the last minutes and lost an opportunity to recover. With two bookings and 2 sendings off, we are on report to the KCFA, this will result in a serious fine to the club and potentially further action, in addition to the fines for bookings and sending offs, which must be paid by the players themselves. Thanks for all the match fees on Saturday which was certainly better than the previous week, however this will only go towards the league fines, unless collected.

.

Potential suspensions and injuries leaves the squad under full strength, fortunately April fixtures are spread out, giving time to recover.
