Opening match of the campaign started with Wheatsheaf looking much brighter and better organised. It didn't take long before Celtic were 3-0 ahead, finding it a little too easy to open up Thurnham. The away side best responses were a shot from Paul Allen, possibly their best player on the day and a header from Will Dunphy onto the woodwork. At times Will brought off some awesome tackles at the back to stem the flow, but as a unit there is much work to be done.
Second period following a reorganisation Thurnham look better, but conceded a fourth early into the period. Shortly after was possibly the away sides best spell in which Steve Warren carved out ashooting opportunity and scored the only response, any remote chances of a comeback disappeared as Cetlic added two further goals, to conclude a 6-1 victory.
Manager Chris Hodgson was left somewhat puzzled after a bad day at the office. The season starts next week!
